Terminus is nice and has a lot of platform options. Ive used on an old ipad in the past. If you have several machines, I highly recommend servercat. Works wonderfully on iphone, ipad, and Mac. It also has options to write and store commands to easily send out to any number of devices with a taps/clicks.

As said in another comment a bare metal Debian install likely wouldn’t be very smooth, or you’d have to run it within Android. Alternatively, if you want to run Linux directly on the phone you could try postmarketOS https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_5T_(oneplus-dumpling)

I can’t help as much with the exposing outward (I’m a basic bitch and just use ddns to expose mine since I can’t get a dedicated IP) but a separate vlan with rules to allow your primary vlan devices to see/talk to it, and block it to be able to see out of it’s own VLAN, would definitely be recommended.

Pmos is a pretty solid os with great tui image building tools. I know I’ll probably wait a bit on this until I try it on one, there’s likely a lot that doesn’t work yet

Honestly I’d say the worst part is the osk. They need to treat it a bit more like phosh does. It’s sooooo far behind when compared to modern device osks. Sure there’s some extensions to help it out, but they don’t go far enough to make it decent on a tablet. And it feels incredibly clunky to use with gdm when signing in, where no extension can help it…

I do. It’s nice. Just earlier I used teleport to remote in and setup a docker container, while out. It’s certainly the biggest advantage to me, having a one click/tap VPN connection to a network. It’s helped me out several times at home and work.

You should be able to run other desktop apps too, through libertine. Though, to be fair, my only time testing it was on a pinetab 1 and it was a feature not yet fully working at that time. I cannot confirm how well it works now

Why not split the difference and do both. Hdd for storage and SSD for services/containers. To help with the power load/performance hit I’d recommend using a usb to sata adapter that has external power. Overall though it sounds like a micro optipl x would be great for you. They’re cheap, more powerful, but still sip power, and usually can fit nvme and 2.5" drives together.

Is the Hba in a traditional server case with lots of airflow? My 9207-8i displayed a similar issue bc it didn’t have enough direct cooling (it’s not in a traditional server/case.) it would never show more than 2 drives at a time and they would often vanish. Once I mounted a fan to it, the Hba has been stable and showing every drive I attach

Oh yeah, they crashed constantly and would run slow af if you restarted them after a crash, without rebooting

I remember running a 3rd party shell in windows 2000. It worked most of the time and had some cool widgets. When it crashed explorer would take its place.
