The fact that Windows devs seem to not know how to run tasks hidden and in the background always bothers me. I’m sure it’s the fault of Windows itself, but Linux doesn’t open jack until I tell it to. With all the extra helper programs needs in the tray to run all the proprietary hardware, I about lose it with all the shit popping up to yell at me.
The downside of that is you’d only see 3 frames of the first screen before your desktop was ready.
I’ve used Linux for about 15 years and I hate the shit out of it. I’ll keep using it though if it means less Windows.
After Windows 10 drops support, the only proprietary system left will be my Mac which I use for music. I’ll be damned if I’m going to try and get Ableton Live running in Wine with low latency. I really wish it wasn’t like that’s though.
Lately for me it’s been “ks”
I’ve always felt that if you’re exposing an SSH or any kind of management port to the internet, you can avoid a lot of issues with a VPN. I’ve always setup a VPN. It prevents having to open up very much at all and then you can open configured web portal ports and the occasional front end protocol where needed.
I bounced around to all sorts of systems and DEs and came to this same conclusion. Debian + KDE is where it all ended up after try easily over 20 different systems throughout the years.
It’s the most “we trust you, but also respect your time” combo I’ve found.
That movie would have been a lot less interesting, I feel.
It’s like a gradient. Bart just looks like a normal man, but yellow, and looks almost nothing like a young Bart, while Marge and Lisa seem to appear unchanged. And the hands. Whose are they?
With my boss, I flip randomly from 👍 to 👌 to 🖕
This is where I am. There are a lot of fancy features that modern graphics cards have that I want to make sure work with all my AAA titles. I have a Linux laptop for near everything that isn’t a game.
I know there’s a lot of people on Lemmy that feel differently, but I am a bit of a bleeding edge graphics whore. I like my raytracing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s too bad ChatGPT will never replace a real Reddit thread:

I had tried about a dozen other distros and all of them had something I didn’t really like. I finally landed on OpenSuse just because it feels like it’s made to get work done. No package manager drama or power trips from devs.
It just comes across as the guy on the project that just does all the work for everyone else because they’re too distracted.
Still haven’t come across nearly anything that I can’t accomplish through the Yast GUI. I wish I had come across it sooner, honestly.
But I don’t have a high score! How am I supposed to win?!
Totally missed the battering battling ram pun here…
The actual answer will always be convenience. It’s just too easy to be able to smack my thumb on the fingerprint sensor to login to just about anything.
I understand your point on security, but for the masses, it needs to be as frictionless as possible.
And getting someone to use BW over nothing is a massive improvement even if it’s not perfect.
