So we agree that it is a different network? It is not the network that is the Fediverse?
So we agree that it is a different network? It is not the network that is the Fediverse?
And what common protocol is that? If it doesn’t talk to Fediverse servers using those servers’ protocol, then it’s not part of the same network.
The Fediverse is ActivityPub, because ActivityPub is how Fediverse servers talk to each other. BlueSky does not talk to Fediverse servers, so it cannot be said to be part of the Fediverse.
That’s several more steps than it ought to take. Including the step of having to look this up, because you’d never intuitively figure this out on your own.
The purpose of federation is to build a network that no one entity can control. An evil CEO can enshittify their own server, but the damage they would deal is limited to their server. The rest of the network would still exist outside of their control, and users can easily leave their server to go elsewhere.
Do you think disliking nazis was something we were supposed to stop doing at some point?
We could lose 99.9% of digital records and what’s left would still be far more than the amount of surviving records from any other point in history.
No one CEO can ruin it.
Right now we’re seeing a cycle of people jumping ship from one corporate-owned platform to another, until that new platform inevitably turns to shit. But as long as people keep doing that, corporate-owned platforms will inevitably turn to shit. The only true solution is to cut corporations out of the picture with platforms that are designed to be unruinable.
I’m just summarizing.
Because someone ignoring reality is often a negative.
“My LLM will simply never make a mistake ever”
I don’t believe you.
This is genuinely harmful. LLMs will hallucinate, which means that using them as a substitute for reading the news will result in the spread of misinformation. And in an era where we see just how dangerous misinformation can be, I beg you to please not do this.
“95% accurate” means 5% lies, which is 5% too many.
You and I know this, but the user who asked probably doesn’t know any of that. They just know that BlueSky is the popular new thing, and it claims to be federated, so why not use the more popular thing?
The person reading this is cute
What exactly do you mean by “prosecution” in the context of social media?
Your own Personal Jesus
I’m here, not planning on leaving any time soon. But I’m also acknowledging that Lemmy can’t fully be everything Reddit was, not without a Reddit-size userbase.
And what does the next paragraph say after that?
