I’ve been running Manjaro for about a decade and never had issues. Not saying they don’t exist but I feel like the concerns are overblown.

Kids today barely know what a file is. I have to regularly explain folders and file types. When I asked them where they saved a thing, they answer “On the computer” and look at me like I’m crazy for asking that.

You’re on the right track and got plenty of good suggestions already. I’ll add that the way to improve the feeling of safety is to light the faces of people, so you need lights at least taller than humans if you want them pointing downwards. Uniformity of lighting is also a big part, so multiple small lamps tend to be better than one big one.

In short, keep it dim, amber/red, uniform, localized, downward pointing (with dark roads if possible) and turn it off when not needed (most town in France shit off the lights in the evening and no one complained).

Also, keeping the streets narrow, winding and having buildings close (aka European streets) will confine the light in the city better than the opposite.

I landed on oh-my-bash, zoxide and some other utilities. It really improved my terminal experience.

That sounds great but I don’t want to keep the ‘rm’ muscle memory in case I’m on another computer and delete something important. Having to use ‘trash’ instead makes you more conscious when it errors out.

Alias rm to echo and install trash. Saved me many times.

Yeah at this point I’ve aliased ‘rm’ to nothing and exclusively use ‘trash’.

A lot of people are telling you to not use manjaro and to use endeavour instead. I’ve been using manjaro for 6 years and it’s fine, in the end they offer very similar user experience.

For package management, I do everything with yay now. Just calling it on it’s own will update everything, with keywords it will search and ask you what to install. The only flag you have to know is -R to uninstall.
