  • The advice is/can be used in a ton of different situations, you seem to only think it’s for a very narrow and small part of those. And even then, it’s not always the best thing, someone can be themselves 99.99% of the time but sometimes it’s better to hold it back. Even something as simple as if they’re meeting your parents for the first time and you know there will be problems if you don’t tell them to not mention something, act like they think differently about something etc.

This very much isn’t just about a possible partner for you and all the time. I don’t understand how you thought that was the only thing. It’s like if someone said a common feature of cars might not be worth keeping on all the time and you read that as only a specific line of Volvo cars, in very specific situations and like you can’t turn it on and off. See how weird and dumb that is?

  • That so many people have fully jumped on the “use AI for everything” train has been a disturbing thing to see. It’s clear that a large percentage of humanity doesn’t want to think, learn or use their brain for anything. I’m guessing part of that is that they’re so dumb that doing any of those things is so hard for them and they fail at even the most basic tasks that they feel AI is a godsend.
I’ve even seen people ask others to use AI for them, which is just an astounding level of laziness and idiocy. One was right here on Lemmy, someone wanted a cutout from an image in a post, a vector image with clear black outlines of the thing they wanted, and not only could they not do it themselves, they thought no one else could, only AI, and they couldn’t even figure out how to do it via that so they asked for someone else to use AI to do it…
I still feel whiplashed from seeing that.

Ah, the classic response to being proven wrong on the Internet. Have a hissy fit like a 5-year-old and call everyone pedantic etc. You were objectively wrong but there’s no problem with that, everyone is wrong about stuff all the time, the difference is how you handle that. You either act like a mentally grown person and just go “oh, damn, I didn’t know that, thanks for correcting me” or act like you’ve done. No one is out to say that pixelfed isn’t growing, but you’re misrepresenting facts and then being a fucking child about being told so.

  • I live in the most sustainable city on the planet, Gothenburg, Sweden. And one of the most environmentally friendly apartment buildings in that city. The building is a special project where they test new sustainability stuff and other cool tech and things. Not sure I’m comfortable linking to a page about the building, as it shows photos and the exact location, but I wrote more extensively about it a couple of months back so I’ll go find that comment as soon as I have time and add it here.

Other than that, I’m vegan, only buy second hand clothes, furniture, kitchenware etc. I only walk, bike and use trams. Most devices I get secondhand and use till they’re unrepairable (or at least would cost more to repair than get another secondhand one) and if I ever find like a phone real cheap before my current one is dead I give it away to family or friends that need it. There’s a lot more minor things, and probably stuff I’m forgetting.

I’ve had and have a hard life where I can’t do most of the things I want due to anxiety, so I’m extremely proud to have gotten to where I am with all the stuff above.

  • How did the maker of that comic fuck up the very first sentence that badly? It makes no sense. The closest I can guess is it should be “forcing touch design on desktop users” and not “in”, but even that is idiotic grammar. It’s like they don’t know what any of the words really mean.

  • Huh, I’ve been on Lemmy through this instance a lot today and this post didn’t show up until after the downtime. I noticed it was down, tried again about 40 minutes later and it was still down so I tried searching for it from other instances but nothing came up. Now it’s at the top of my feed. Is there any way to get en email or something for things like this? Not that it’s a common thing at all, just so people that might have the same experience know what’s going on. And just to be clear, this was no big deal at all, I was just curious what was going on and felt there should be some place to find that out during the downtime.

    Thanks for the post, anyway!

  • The Windows updating experience, both the system and apps via the Microsoft Store is so fucking bad it’s unbelievable. Shit just stops working all the time, updates fail, grinds the whole system to a halt etc.

For several years now I’ve been unable to update apps in the Microsoft store in one go, I have to open it, click “get updates” and the circular progression bar goes to about 1/5 and then just stops. So I have to close the app, wait a few minutes, open it again and then press the “play” button for every single app that has updates for the download to actually start, nothing else works. It’s been the same for Windows 10 and 11 across four different computers.

There was a Windows 10 update several months ago, might even have been last year that just failed for a ton of people and it took months before it was fixed.

  • English hard, apparently.

I fucking hate this thing that’s becoming more and more common. Obvious bad grammar and spelling mistakes in memes like this, it’s become the rule rather than the exception in just the past year. And I’m certain it’s rarely not done on purpose, it’s the same with post and video titles both here, reddit, youtube etc. It gets clicks and comments and people fucking suck so they do it with no shame.
