Well, the thing is, you almost don’t. But like the other commenter said, most instructions are for terminal when something happens and from my - fairly limited as of now - experience, terminal is still key to linux configuration.

What was mostly generating the Ew response was the fact that linux isn’t really known for being newbie friendly. Then getting hit with headless debian during studies also didn’t exactly change what I thought.

I honestly hated idea of linux for soooo long. Ew. Like ew. Doesn’t work, borks, needs command line, wtf is that steaming pile of…yeah. Ew.

But insert the goddamn bird with cracker meme after I tried Nobara last year (tried some other distros too). When Windows 10 loses support, I am pretty confident that Nobara will fill most of my needs.

And, well, have some IT experience, with linux too, so occasional terminal isn’t that bad. I was simply afraid of constantly having to work in terminal.

Windows sucks your data and tries to put ads everywhere. Linux is a type of operating system, that is free and open source - everybody can make their version. Thus, there are no ads, and the moment they try to spy on you, community picks up the torches. So, people who know their stuff rally behind linux. HOWEVER. Linux isn’t windows - it doesn’t support the same programs and needs you to fight off command line anxiety.

Today linux is basically botherless to work with, but even then, I still had to boot up command line to install some old ass drivers or some shit.

Heck, what’s more - there’s only one/two version of active windows, but there’s many linux distributions (which are the “made by other folk” version I talked before), so you can pick the one that fits you. Most folks recommend Linux Mint as it’s the most Windows like experience, but if you like chromebooks there’s also Peppermint OS, and if you want full versatility there’s also Debian.

About lemmy.world - when running from reddit, it was literally first on the list of advised ones everywhere. Also, biggest, so it had most communities. I am actually pretty much only aware of .world, .dbzer0 and sh.itjust.works. From the normal ones anyway.

Most people who don’t know their stuff uses nvidia. Happily slowly changing, but nvidia is everywhere, at least where I live. And people who don’t know stuff still hold onto “green good, red hot and bad”.

How do you break Windows except by downloading malware? It literally hides, or rather masquarades it’s settings from you and makes it hard to do anything bad to it. My grandpa uses Windows - I thought about introducing him to linux to breathe second life into his PC but…I doubt he would be able to do much with it. I cede point towards Android.

How is Win 11 new default? I may be out of the loop, but is it now majorly used? If so, I cede all because the only time I tried to use it, goddamn first-time registration died on me. Like, fully. Unfixable. What a mess.

It doesn’t have to, but for most users on the level of teens/kids it is. You wanna do something in windows? Done. Just done. No problems whatsoever, most devs bend over backwards for compatibility. Meanwhile finding shit for linux is pain. Most things you heard of are not even there. You have to go through weird apps just to run things you’re used to, and meanwhile OS asks weird questions like which graphic driver to install,

Linux changed a whole lot from the time I was introduced to it, and it became reaaaaally close to being as easy to use as windows. Hell, I even was considering switching to Mint some time ago ( Then bricked my boot. Thrice. And it’s not fault of Linux. I think. ). I like how it looks and feels, and with proton and stuff it’s best time to do so but it still isn’t on the same level of being non-problematic as windows.

Edit: Cannot talk about Win 11. Touched it once. If I need to upgrade, fuck that, going linux. Not worth it. At all.

Was introduced as a teen. Recently even looked back at my book from the times and it had a whole goddamn chapter with linux propaganda.

Hated it. Felt like high maintenance windows. No reason to even get near. Also, hated it doubly because nobody asked.

Best way would be to switch school computers to linux. That way there’s no active part - it’s here, you have to use it anyway, deal with it. Then you can taste it neutrally, and it becomes just a quirk. Quirk some may like.

Savegame folder is then placed either ina folder with game name or studio name, so easy to check all these locations within minutes.

Let’s not talk about rpgmaker games tho. I’ve seen them do some wacky shit with gamesaves.
