I can ssh in with Krusader and edit from Krusader’s GUI editor. I would probably still do it from the terminal because it’s faster, but it’s good to have more than one way to do things.

Pop feels like a phone OS.
I love fish, but I can see why POSIX purists would hate it. I haven’t run into any problems, but if I need to use bash, I have it installed, too. The biggest problem is that it doesn’t have wide adoption, so everybody assumes you’re using bash, and a lot of the bash commands don’t work in fish. So you have to be a bit of a power user if you want to do anything fancy.
Fortunately, Linux terminals are gorgeous and easy to use. I never wanted to use Windows’ com because it was so ugly and user-hostile. I know Powershell is a thing now, but it still looks ugly to me.
Was gonna say, never had anyone tell me to use a GUI over CLI
Do you ever use the CLI, though?
It isn’t condescending. It’s the easiest and simplest way to do a thing. Additionally, there’s a wide variety in GUI options on Linux, so if I’m helping somebody out, I’m going to give the terminal commands. Not because I’m a terminal elitist or some nonsense, but because I know it will work regardless of whatever their GUI setup is. I might know where to go in KDE, but I don’t know where it would be in GNOME or any other desktop environment I’m unfamiliar with. The terminal command is going to be the same for everybody, though.
The big problem with web forums was dealing with spam.
Also, one thing this article overlooked is that X is no longer indexed by Google, because you’re required to log in to read most things.
100% of XHTML will work in HTML5.
I remember when XHTML was supposed to replace HTML. Everything was going to be standardized and web designers would run their HTML code against a validator…it was going to be glorious! And of course it never happened, because demanding that all websites conform to the XHTML standard would’ve broken a lot of websites.
So, HTML5 ate XHTML’s lunch because it was much more forgiving, and…oh yeah, you could watch videos and play games in it, too.
When I got into Retroshare, it was all filesharing, but that was several years ago.
What are you having trouble with? Which distros have you tried?
I have to use Windows at work. Once, apropos of nothing at all, a system pop-up asked me if I wanted to buy an XBox controller. When I lock the screen and come back, sometimes Edge will have opened all by itself, presenting me with the Bing homepage. Nice try, Microsoft!
There are enough people dong that already and we are still travelling a downward path.
Huh? There are not enough people doing that already, and that is why we are traveling on a downward path.
That’s like saying “I have plenty of money, but I’m still broke”.
What is he supposed to do?
Are you joking? Yes. You’re trolling me. Ha-ha, you got me, you crazy troll, you!
Now, if you were serious, I would say: Join an activist group. Call his representatives. Create or enlist in a mutual aid organization. Help out at a soup kitchen. Run for office. Those are just a few off of the top of my head. I could think of dozens more if I wanted to take the time.
LOL
The implication of that quote is that the “good men” are doing something good, not doing anything at all. I don’t see how running around with your middle finger in the air improves anything, and it could be argued it does the opposite.
Maybe try joining an activist or mutual aid group? Or even just serving food in a soup kitchen?
Flipping people off might feel good, but it isn’t helping the country, and it doesn’t sound like it’s helping you, either.
Get involved in your community. Go out and meet some people.
It’s important if they share the file, too.
Preservation is extremely relevant for streaming services, because you don’t own anything. Sure, that movie or show is there today, but the streaming service could decide to take it down tomorrow, and then it’s gone. Maybe forever. Corporations have no interest in preservation, unless it makes them money. And sometimes, oddly, not even then.
There can also be weird issues with copyrights or something like that. Take the example of old Beavis & Butt-Head episodes. MTV had to cut out the music videos, because they no longer held the rights to show them anymore. There are episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 like this. They had permission to show that movie at the time the episode was made, but they don’t hold those rights anymore, so they can’t offer that episode for streaming.
I use FireDragon, because it’s the only browser I could find that has a vertical tab-bar that collapses. Supposedly Zen does it, too, but I couldn’t get it to work.
FireDragon also has a toolbar to the side with a notepad and other neat stuff. I haven’t used that yet, but it could be cool.
If libraries didn’t already exist, to people in the USA they’d sound like some kind of socialist fever dream.
A place where anybody can go to borrow media for free? Paid with my tax dollars?
