They used to allow their client to be used to send unsecured SMS. Then they stopped. Whatever they thought they were doing, they killed the simplest path to onboarding laypeople they had. I kinda gave up on signal after that.
GFCI doesn’t protect against voltage surges
Breakers prevent over-current from damaging things.

In a past career, I was a mechanical design engineer; I’ve probably spent 10,000 hours of my life in SolidWorks. Not once did I feel like a 3d mouse would speed me up or otherwise solve my problems. I trialed a spacepilot for several months and just couldn’t be arsed after awhile. What do others get out of them?

From other discussions I’ve seen, the guy stepping down was frustrated by having C code rejected that made lifetime guarantees more explicit. No rust involved. The patch was in service of rust bindings, but there was 0 rust code being reviewed by maintainers.
As a mechanical engineer who spent multiple thousands of hours using SolidWorks, trying to use FreeCAD felt like flying a Cessna 172 after getting used to a Citation jet.
0·8 months agoI’m a mechanical engineer and have spent literal years in front of Creo and SolidWorks. Trying to use FreeCAD felt like flying a Cessna 172 after being accustomed to a business jet; they can ostensibly get you where you need to go, but the cost in effort to use the tool is not worth the cost saved in buying the commercial tool.

Fun fact, if you arrive at this conclusion as an 8 year old in Sunday school at your ultra fundamentalist Baptist Church and proceed to tell the teacher, you get yelled at and spanked by the teacher and your parents! Ask me how I know.
The difference is that, for Windows, a million other people have seen your problem most of the time, so there’s usually some kind of support article that can point you in the right direction on how to fix your problem without having to dive into the docs.
Linux just doesn’t have that luxury. If I were getting paid to solve the problem, sure, I’d probably have figured it out in a day or so as a Linux noob. But I’m not. My free time is limited. I don’t need to know much about Windows because it works pretty much all the time (ymmv).
One time I used the store UI thing in Ubuntu to install a package and it made it so that every subsequent time I opened it it would just freeze. I couldn’t figure out how to uninstall it via the command line because it had some kind of lock on it. After awhile I gave up and reinstalled windows.
A traveling repairman or some other on-the-road professional. Let it go in the hotel overnight and have your print by morning. Or that evening if you set it up in the morning.
