i’m not blaming other pirates for anything. What i’m saying is there are consequences for some things. For example, many things are not acted upon because corporations and governments arent aware of them. Or some things are just ignored because its cheaper for them to do nothing about it than act. If anything I’m putting my trust on other pirates for hoping they might consider how their actions could affect others instead of thinking only themselves or their immediate community.

Don’t you see the necessity of trying to manage how corporations might respond? And i’m not saying people shouldnt be doing things out of fear but everyone should try to act smartly so we can preserve what we have. This goes beyond what i said earlier so dont hang on only to what I said. i just cant untangle some thoughts from eachother and still be able to write text that doesnt meander too much.

i just dont have any faith that things can get better so i dont want them to get even worse. its better than nothing.

yeah, i just wish people thought more about these things. There are consequences not just to yourself but possibly towards fellow pirates and bystanders. Personally I have benefitted from family sharing greatly, much more than from piracy as with piracy you have to accept the possibility of malware which I cant afford at the moment. I really dont want to see valve rescind it.

far be it from me to defend any corporation, but doesnt this send wrong kind of a message to them? They didnt need to make family sharing, let alone remind you if you can already play a game through it when purchasing one. This isnt typical behaviour and should be allowed a little slack for it, to show other corporations that not being asshole is more profitable.

If valve goes bad then nothing is too horrible, but until that, its kind of bad form to stab a hand that offers a little kindness, even if their ultimate goal is to just make money by staying on top by having good will. I dont think we can expect to get anything better.

well yeah, but where do you find reliable information about that? i know there is the megathread but that doesnt have every site listed on the good ones nor the ones to avoid.

there aren’t many places where you can discuss politics or at least try to find comfort in seeing others think somewhat same way. No wonder its all concentrating here. But there definitely should be a lot more non-politics content.

I’m not sure what to look for if there is something hidden. I cant tell if there are any odd processes but everything seems to be signed correctly. There is nothing odd in C root either and i wouldnt know what to look for from the folders. There are no odd installed applications either.

I have had similar scare before when I installed a game I downloaded from skidrow reloaded website.(over year ago) The installer did something with cmd window, something about system image, i dont remember anymore. The file was also too big for scanner to scan and I dont think virustotal accepted it either due to size. However, I did system restore after that.

I also asked an acquittance who works in some tech company to help, even showed the install process to him, but he said it didnt seem dangerous. I have also been running r-kill occasionally and doing scans with hitmanpro’s early detection but they havent found anything either. I have also been occasionally monitoring things with tools from sysinternals but I’m not sure if i would even notice if anything was odd.

If it is new malware, scanners wouldnt pick up on it.
On behavior tab there is tons of stuff. Shouldnt there be none? I dont know too much about virustotals results mean, but doesnt the mitre thing mean it could potentially do something like that?

russia is untrustworthy country and taints even regular good people by them having to live there. What can they do if kgb or something calls and tells them to put in some code they want? Refuse and watch their loved ones die? Comply but risk telling the community they just did that?

One way to anonymize voting, if desired, could be just make a mess out of who voted what in the logs. I vote something, some other random user’s name is logged. Or maybe that could be used to deter scrapers and make the incorrect logging reverseable somehow that requires actual human interaction that cant be automated.

DRM just slows down how many people pirate stuff by making it non-trivial. If piracy was extremely simple and completely without risk everyone would be doing it, which in turn would start to cause harmful effects that they justify all anti-piracy stuff. I dont think corporations see it that way though, they are likely just bunch of idiots that want to squeeze even more from us.

Not defending drms or generally any anti-piracy stuff, but humanity might not be quite ready for 100% free information. Hopefully it will eventually happen though. All of you are fighting for our freedom by not giving up on this.
