While Automattic is among the many companies contributing to the WordPress project, neither it nor WordPress.com are affiliated with the software/project or the WordPress Foundation.
Tumblr is owned by Automattic, which runs WordPress.com. Tumblr migrating to WordPress is not a surprise in the slightest.
I think you are forgetting that most home-labbers probably can’t afford to get a fur suit due to their homelab.

You may be able to root the LG TV and use https://github.com/webosbrew/youtube-webos, which supports ad blocking and sponsorblock. Or you could install it with developer mode, but developer mode has a limited session time.
In my experience using an older android phone for self-hosting, the downside was a lack of ports and I/O. Being stuck with a single USB 2 interface and wifi was less than ideal for my use case.
I ran a Minecraft server on termux and (IIRC) AnLinux once. It worked surprisingly well.
I switched from a GTX 1080 to an Arc A770 for this exact reason. I was sick of putting up with the bullshit NVIDIA drivers. I am much happier with the Intel card, with the exception of it not having VR support.
If I am remembering correctly, Australia also has laws that allow the government to force private companies to build backdoors. I think it was the Ass Access Act.
This whole situation was a concern for me too, but with Ladybird being spun off into its own not for profit, these kind of things are much less likely to occur again going forward. The project is a lot more focused now.
