Thank you. I needed this.
Thank you. I needed this.
It’s a small win but I’ll take it.
Animals use a lot of body language. So, if AI could lift your tail to “speak” cat, i would finally get impressed by AI.
I remember getting a device that came with Vista. I reinstalled Vista on it and it still sucked. I then installed a pirated version of Windows 7 on it; the performance difference was night and day. It’s not @[email protected]’s fault that Microsoft is certifying incompatible hardware.
It’s already lost. Lemmy is mainly now just users that hate reddit (the company itself). It doesn’t have the same far-left/progressive and tech loving atmosphere it did only a few months ago.
edit: And yes, I do understand most of the population is moderate/centrist and not fans of free and open source software.
I believe you in saying it’s possible if your cat isn’t a picky eater. However, what do most pet cats eat per day, 100 to 200 calories a day? Pet food is usually made with the cuts that didn’t make it into people food. I understand why people choose to be vegans (I see this choice almost like a religious choice). Making a few cats vegan doesn’t really help the “vegan cause.” Plus, there’s no point in forcing animals in making ethical choices.
I agree, outside of very, very few people it’s just a stereotype.
get upset about it being referred to as gnu+Linux or gnu/Linux
I would say it’s the opposite. Certain people get angry if you do not refer to it as GNU/Linux. These people used to be technically correct.
GNU tried to rewrite Unix from scratch under the GNU GPL license. They view their copy left license (a license where if you incorporate any code under their license, you must release the code of your project as well) as morally superior. Their kernel didn’t work out, but Linus Torvolds wrote another kernel for that GNU OS.
Obviously, GNU wanted credit for the OS components that were not Linux. That’s where the copypasta about “What you are using is in fact GNU+Linux…” came from. GNU is the heart of the free software movement so they have their fans as well that of course would also make that claim.
Of course, as the meme in the OP suggests, you can now have a Linux distro that either does not use code owned by GNU or uses very little of their code. I would argue Ubuntu, Arch, etc still are technically GNU+Linux as they use GNU’s C compiler, their C implementation, their userspace programs like Bash and grep, etc. However, Alpine uses alternatives to GNU software such as the musl C implementation.
This may sound cheesy but this list is the healthy way to solve the issue people had with Lemmy.ml moderation. Thank you for compiling it, I didn’t reliaze there were instances for programming and anime. Glad to see a solution where we didn’t have to go through the adults (admins and mods in this case).
Also, it’s healthy for the fediverse to see communities spread on to many instances but it does make Lemmy harder for your average redditor to understand (but long term goal of a healthy fediverse is more important).
Also [email protected] is a bit more active than [email protected]
Yes, it is. Which genocide are they denying? Is it the Uyghurs?
selectively purge the modlog
Now this would be a good reason to defederate from an instance. Modlog is what keeps mods consistent (right now I don’t like the Lemmy.ml mods rulebrick but at least they were open about what they don’t like).
Hating their opinion is not a reason to defederate. Legitimate reasons are general harrasment (stalking specific individuals), racism, bigotry, CP, derailing entire threads (not just disagreement on a comment), etc.
A user’s ability to participate in a Linux community should not depend on them refraining from posting criticism about China or Russia.
I agree 100% with this statement. That’s not enough of a reason to defederate in my opinion. We need a better /c/Linux on our instance. It’s just that Lemmy.ml has more FOSS lovers.
There’s no need to defederate from Lemmy.ml. I rarely see their content on the front page of Lemmy.world. The other day someone complained that Lemmy.ml users were brigading a different thread. I counted three users with a ml domain…
We have different admins and mods, everything is working as intended. The issue is people bringing up tankies, communists, and China every three posts. Yes, we get it, the benevolent people who wrote us this software are communists. They allow us to have different mods and admins, there is no problem here.
Honestly, I wouldn’t post to /c/[email protected] even though I’m happy with how pro-Palestine those people are. The only community I look at Lemmy.ml is /c/[email protected]. It’s not their fault no one posts to the Lemmy.world instance.
I think it’s time to start banning users who troll other instances and cross pollinate the fediverse with drama.
Yeah, its 6 years old. I’m not recommending people to try PostMarketOS. It’s just on my to do list.
I have the 6. I set my phone to prefer LTE to gain HOURS of battery life and to get a more stable connection. I always have an issue where the phone may take a minute after pressing call to actually initiate a phone call.
My next phone is probably going to be OnePlus. Either the 6T on PostMarketOS if it actually works or just the latest cheaper model (but I’ll wait till the 13, the 6 is only like 2.5 years old).
I would not recommend a Pixel 6 or anything newer. Samsung can’t seem to get 5g working on their own modems (chip that connects to carrier). Samsung generally uses Qualcomm modems for their expensive products. I do hear less people complain with the Pixel 8 but no one should be complaining about a modem in a phone.
It would be a much taller order but support for PostMarketOS (a Linux distro meant for mobile) would be huge.
Could be three. Just make your only account the root user.
Duck it.
