Why removing the battery? I was thinking that could be one good thing about using a laptop is that in a way it has its own UPS.

Would you even fall “down” at all, if it’s at the edge of space? Wouldn’t gravity cause you to just continue walking down the edge like it’s another surface–how “thick” do they say the flat earth is? Have they ever described what the edge is supposed to be like and why no one has found it yet? Or do they maybe say there isn’t an edge, but then what do they claim the earth’s shape is supposed to be beyond the 2-D term “flat”?

I’ve seen a few “debunking” videos refuting some claim or another but I’ve never seen either the flat earthers or the debunkers address some of the most obvious questions about it. Usually they just demonstrate the curvature of the earth or something.

FreeTube is great! I’ll wait for the normal release which is soon enough for me–when these things happen I just check it every so often, knowing they’ll figure out how to fix it like they always do.

Nice idea, but Google is good at recognizing spam so I doubt they would use it as training data, and that would most likely result in my emails being categorized as spam so the person I’m writing to wouldn’t receive them.

1. Google scans your gmail, you can believe they don’t use that for training if you want.

2. I’m not attempting to single-handedly stop AI training on people’s data which is impossible. What I want to do is make MY data useless, or preferably even harmful, to it by putting in a bunch of “bad” training data in with it.

That’s exactly what I did, lol. Kbin seemed intriguing but didn’t last. I did try to look and get an idea about different lemmy instances but found very little info about any of them except for the 2 or 3 “infamous” ones, so I just went with .world, which seems fine to me.

There is something like that on most Mastodon pages where if you are viewing it just in your browser rather than from within your mastodon account, you can click Follow and it will ask for the server name you want to follow it from, so you have to enter your server name, then it will auto-open it in your Mastodon account for you.

I don’t know that there’s much more anyone could do than that, since any given server you are viewing has no idea what various fedi accounts you may have. That’s kind of what “decentralized” means–there’s no central database keeping track of all your accounts.

Oh, to browse all the posts rather than just one account’s, go to https://pixelfed.social/web/explore which should show pretty much everything. (that’s the main server with the most users by far, and any other PF servers are federated with it so most of theirs should show up there as well)

Yes, you can follow a pixelfed account from your mastodon account and see their posts in your feed. Paste the url of their page into your mastodon search to bring up their profile, then you can view their posts and/or follow them.

OK, I just didn’t take it as being an argument that smartphones were bad or that they haven’t helped anyone. I took it as OP saying that having one hasn’t benefited them personally, which I can understand and relate to, and is why I was defending that opinion (I explained my view about them in an earlier post in the thread). Anyway, no point in continuing since we just have different interpretations of what they were saying. Thanks for being polite about it and giving me a better idea of what some responders were upset about.
