Interesting; most of the ones I have seen are portraying Mangione as Luigi from Nintendo.
My attempt using deepai:
Interesting, that is a lot of blocking, and it seems like a really small pool of certain types of people and information!
You know what you only want to see; thanks for sharing your views on the matter.
Please, let’s not get into this habit of creating communities without having any clear purpose. It only makes things look even deader than they already are.
TIL, people follow that rule.
I try to keep my communities active, not sure you can say that about the others though.
hahaha, interesting, thanks for the questions!
do we really a whole community for that?
Why not.
It is just another new community like many on lemmy.
What do you want to talk about it there?
People can talk about SponsorBlock and the like.
TIL, cool for them.
I use other YT forks and systems that already implement similar techniques even if they are “good” or “bad” ads.
I am also for Sailing the High Seas.
We have a difference in opinion on this matter, but thanks for the small chat and the link!
This is the section you are talking about:
SponsorBlock
This year, a developer worked on implementing support for SponsorBlock in NewPipe. SponsorBlock is a crowd-sourced database listing sponsored sections in videos, which are automatically skipped by clients such as web browsers, using extensions.
While SponsorBlock’s implementation apparently takes care to preserve user privacy (you can, e.g., download the entire database for offline use, and its regular querying system is also well made), it targets an ethical advertising system. Its purpose is to help users, who probably don’t realise that sponsorship is one of the most ethical ways to fund their favorite content, automatically skip sponsored sections of videos.
Morally, it’s a very questionable system. Of course, some sponsoring may be of little relevance to the user, or maybe even intrusive or hidden. But SponsorBlock doesn’t differentiate between ethical and unethical advertisements. It just skips all kinds of sponsored sections.
That’s not your opinion.
Okay.
Not all ads are invasive soul seeking tracking nightmares
Ads are ads; it doesn’t matter if they are “good” or “bad,” unless you want to watch them like most people do because they don’t mind or they don’t know how to block them.
no, there are not “many ways” for content creators to do that full-time.
If they do not get the engagement or funds they need, they will either paywall or find other ways to support themselves; or they will just not make it on YouTube or streaming, like many people before them, unless they continue to fight on while learning and failling.
This reminds me of some small business talks; it is a harsh capitalistic world; you give up or keep trying.
I still say grassroots funding and support is the way to go if they are just doing it for the hobby or for what they believe.
IMO: Ads are ads, even if they come from the creator themselves.
People will support them if they can and if they want to.
Many ways to support them, direct funding, talking about them, making communities, and other stuff.
Jumping in:
My Android is my primary device so I don’t get the alt text.
Use a YT fork, you can customize it to some of your liking; Some come with SponsorBlock enabled right out of the box.
Yeah, I just click on video to check titles, unless you copy and paste yt url then go to a front-end website.
Or Louis Rossmann yt fork…
Edit: grammer, format, spelling, flow
IMO: Political tribalism.
They might be following the online narrative that the game is getting in their circles.
I check out other social media, so I see a bit of both sides.
On the other end, it is a really popular game that did not follow the PC culture wars that other games follow, per Sweet Baby Inc…
Sweet Baby Inc. is a Canadian narrative development and consultation studio based in Montreal. Founded by former Ubisoft developers, including scriptwriter Kim Belair and product manager David Bédard, the company consults on video game narratives during development to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within game narratives and studios.
LMK if I am wrong or if anyone has more information.

Too much to post text of all months.
Here are the ones just for September:
This is not exclusive to c/vegan; other communities have similar issues you have brought up; they have also been called out by a few, but c/vegan is getting the most traction.
It goes back to user, mod, and admin control over their communities.
This post seems to address the overpolicing conflict.
You missed the point of the post.
This goes beyond the c/vegan issue; it is addressing systematic lemmy issues between admins, moderators, and users.
What a Catastrophe!
I think people just like showing off their pets.
Interesting.
Are you holding ‘Option’ down when it boots? So as to access the GNU GRUB menu?

This process should work on any Intel Mac pre 2018 (without T2 security chip & secure boot). Thanks for the suggestion to install Linux on this old MacBook Air! It has brought new life to this old computer and I am really enjoying getting to know Linux, as I have never really used Linux in this capacity. Let me know if you would like a more in depth video of how I set up my Linux environment!
Awesome, thanks for the updates!
Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for clarifying and going further into explaining your views to us!
Some people can be seen as being a dreamer[1], I see myself as such a person, I try to stay hopeful, I see it as a much more positive way of living in the world; as well as much healthier for our mental health
Lemmy as a niche platform not one that appeals the masses
Yes, Lemmy is currently a niche platform, but that is how many start off, it takes time and much effort to grow a community.
It is similar to grassroots movements, where people that are leaders or learn to become one are willing to speak with anyone for a cause they feel strongly about, and they start to grow slowly.
I see lemmy in that phase or light, where most activity will be from people that are willing to throw themselves out there and share their favorite hobbies and put in the energy to interact with strangers (whether it may be apositive or negative interaction is another thing).
It takes time for people to come out of their shells and to start being active on forums as well, hopefully in Lemmy we give people that opportunity to grow as people and to take chances to meet and discuss any topic with strangers.
A few dedicated people can’t foster a genuine community out of sheer enthusiasm.
Well, it takes a few to start something new, in my eyes all important causes and projects start with a few people just having fun or putting the time to create something new.
To accomplish anything in life, it will take time and a lot of energy and people willing to do that.
I just don’t personally see that happening.
It is okay to see the world in that way, but just putting a bit of effort into sharing or creating a community that you like, will help improve the community.
Activity would increase, if you create a community or decide to share more of your hobbies and opinions within those communities.
If the communities would be liked by Lemmurs or not, it is another matter, but in the end of the day we all have our own way of seeing the world and we can have discussions with people that are willing to share their views as well.
The only way we can continue to grow as people, is by forcing ourselves to push against our own bias and to keep talking with people that do not think or agree with what we have to say.

Much text to read, here is a Lemmur for a fun pic:
In his own words:
He criticizes the duopoly and the oligarchy, but I know those loyal to the duopoly tend to become tribal if people don’t outright support one side and hate the other.
Glenn has proven himself as a journalist with his reporting of Edward Snowden and much more.
He does not fall into simplistic political groups, so I understand the frustration some political factions have with people like him.
Which people do you recommend if Glenn Greenwald does not meet your standards?
