@[email protected] my honest recommendation is to switch to the plain text only mode and disable file / media upload if it’s possible. Hosting plain text data is cheap. Let them share links only to their cdns, servers or ipfs for media
The early internet was so good because it mainly consisted from academics or people willing to share knowledge and exchange it. Modern internet is dying because of the fact that most of users are leeches and don’t contribute to the equation. Most tech youtube channels are dying because there is no gratification for content creators, it takes a lot of time, money to produce the content and they get no benefit. The end effect is they shut the whole thing down, thank you for the “service”, you only contribute to the internet “quality” downfall
It’s already there - it’s called hyphanet ( old freenet ). It works really well removing the need being always online but it’s not popular because of no mobile clients
Youtube was known for hosting pirated content in the early days to attract people
Tell it to the Russian Linux devs that foss has no owners :-) Theory and practice are 2 different things
It’s based on BSD like Mach kernel
How so - even doi links?
Friend of friend networks, that’s how classmates have benefits created ( a prototype to “prove” 6 connections theory )
Web of trust - did you hear? https://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual/x547.html
You can use gpg signatures
I still believe that mailing lists are the best technology which has been both decentralized in the meaning of the identity ( which you can verify with gpg ) and storage. While I like many other things like simplex, lemmy, to some extent matrix and so on, still mailing lists rock nowadays ( note: please consider 2 criterias i meant - distributed identity and storage)
So I think good luck for foss movement. Hopefully, forking that project won’t be illegal because otherwise foss will die
But where do you have information that it was russian state? There are many state actors capable of doing this. Just saying
Actually I’m interested how it looks legally ( it somebody cares about it at all ). Whether the Russian contributors could ask to revert their changes as they most likely never signed the contract to transfer their code copyrights. For sure it will have a big impact on foss because if you have at least one American and Russian contributors, you may get in the biggest shitshow. Additionally if I was considering now to become a contributors, I’d be wondering if it’s worthy at all to work for free and then to be banned no thanks for whole free work years
Nothing interesting for 99% population. Tech blogging is the hardest stuff and most tech youtubers pretty much stopped contributing. What’s the point of sharing knowledge if any gamer on twitch has bigger audience than you maybe 200 - 300 live watchers and it’s the a good number of viewers for a very well known polish security researcher ( ex Google ). So you know why social media is going shit
Hmm, it’s strange grey area. Sometimes piracy is the only way to make the book not disappear. There are niche, low circulation books and magazines which without piracy would disappear and became almost unavailable.
Sometimes the book is no longer in the print because of many reasons:
Ethics & piracy is pretty strange combination and there is no easy answer for it
Is there an email thread where c and rust Linux kernel devs actually discuss what’s about? Because so far I see some Linux drama and I have no slightest clue what’s about
Lol, strawmanning because running of your shitty arguments? Yes, indeed eot
Keepassxc. I’m a little skeptical to hosted solutions
