This is a little wrong. East canada is actually north canada, while the real east canada is sticking out in the topleft corner. Please do invade it, I beg you 🥺 🙏

And that’s the problem. The whole privacy thing goes out the window because it relies on an insecure and state-controlled method for authentication. What’s the use of it if it can be killed off in any country at a whim of its, or USA’s government?
Let’s say the US gov starts agressively prosecuting dissidents and certain minorities (they already do): can and should we still use signal in this case?
Definitely no. Russian government already is aggressively prosecuting dissidents and you can’t join Signal there. I don’t know whether it’s due to sanctions or if the government is blocking 2FA SMS messages. In either case, it is impossible to join without a phone number confirmation. At least I wasn’t able to. I don’t see the USA being that far off with all the recent TikTok drama.
He did tho. I don’t know where and why you’ve pulled these quotes from, when the original message is available publicaly, and where it’s very clear whom exactly he accused.
Definitely, yes. Win8 was unusable on desktops but was pretty good on tablets, win10 sucks on both. But the main thing is that spyware/bloatware explosion happened in win10. Xbox services, onedrive, cortana, that weather thing with msn news, fucking candy crush preinstalls, etc, all came with win10.
In the HN page you linked many people mentioned v2ray. Have you tried that? How good is it?
Nope, haven’t actually read the comments, just sent the article as reference to the issue. It does indeed sound quite promising. Think it’d be nice to have even if as just a fallback, so I’ll try that too, whenever I get a moment.
Yep. That’s the number one contender. Well right after overriding default DERP’s with my own VPS machines. I’ll definitely try it out over some weekend.
One of my other concerns with this and other solutions suggested is the reliance on wireguard which can be subject to fingerprinting and censorship. Do you happen to know if it’d be possible to swap out Headscale’s implementation of wireguard to amnezia? I’ll have to do my homework anyway, but who knows, maybe there are some pitfalls to avoid.
Tailscale… is not that good. The underlying wireguard is robust, but tailscale control plane is completely proprietary, as well as their DERP servers that it too often uses completely needlessly. They can also block you off from downloading it, updating, or logging in, if you happen to be in a wrong country.
I’m myself looking for an alternative to it, but having trouble finding something I could share with non tech savvy friends while not being as complex on my end as, say, open/strongswan ais. Any suggestions welcome.
But is it SCSI or 1/4" TRS?
What? This is a normal headphone dongle for macs.
sudo apt-mark hold snapd
I think it’s possible to have both in a federated system. Let the instance the user is on keep the tally of who upvoted what, and let the instance the post is on to know only the tally from other instances. Should be up to instances whether to show this data to users or not. This way it’d be easy to find and defederate single user instances manipulating votes.
But, on the other hand, I don’t see a reason to care about privacy of votes if you can’t even delete a post or comment. Fediverse is, by design, not very private, why bother with just this one aspect of it then.
Oh come on now. Think a little. What is hexbear all about? LGBT and Communism. Now, guess which two things Putin heads the most? Do you really think that we have money to fund people LARPing as gay commies, on an isolated instance, in an obscure social network, in a country that’s already extremely short on cash because of war? Get your head out the arse.
But, who’s the alleged state sponsor? Don’t tell me it’s Russia, that wouldn’t make any sense.
The what now?
polyphilia
Love that band. Their latest album is the shit.
It’s great to have alternatives. If it was all linux, and linux got hit, then it’d be the entire world in danger. Too bad M$ is just not good enough for it’s second most popular position.
Might have some trouble if it’s a typec dock and the monitors are connected to it. Laptop’s own outputs might also be wonky if there’s a hybrid gpu setup going on, but support for thosr has improved a ton lately. Mkb should work fine out of the box as long as it’s not some unified proprietary bullshit wireless kit with smarfridge integration.
Overall, I would suggest just ripping an image of ubuntu, or pop_os if you got nvidia card, boot off it, just close the installer to try live mode, and see for yourself if everything works. Takes like an hour to do, no installation required. You can even install software, except gpu drivers, as everything would be all wiped on reboot and gpu drivers need reboot, hence popos suggestion as it has them built-in. You can try remmina on it - it’s the most common remote control software, supports both rdp and vnc and a bunch of other obscure protocols.
Ratios are a things of a past. I’m having trouble getting ratios as all of the torrents I have are straight zeros in the upload section. I still keep them around for a while just out of habit, but just to verify it’s working I’ve downloaded some random file with high leech ratio. Got it in fast, but upload is now going at less than 5% the upload capacity. Back in late 00s running torrents would instantly saturate the entirety of my 10mbit connection, and I’d like to think that terabytes I’ve seeded during that time make up for my abysmal ratios nowadays. But the reality is that there just simply is enough seeders already, and as a result the trackers I frequent to either dropped it entirely or switched to a scoring system based on how much and for how long people store obscure torrents that only few people seed, but I’m too short on drive space to participate in that.
