I just make little videos for myself a couple times a year. So I’m far from a pro. But holy shit kdenlive and blender are powerful programs (blender moreso, but kden is still pretty cool)

Ah, cool. That sounds useful for like if you’re recording at a protest/action
Wow, too bad they didn’t at least open-source it. Take it off the app stores and disconnect the cloud service, but at least let others develop it
The original intent was a hobby project, not a competitor to orher kernels
Look at the success of Linux. It’s not in opposition to capitalism, it’s ba kernel widely used by capitalists. If Linux was truly a threat to capitalism, google wouldn’t use it in their phones.
I still think that Linux and open source are great. They’re just not neccesarily anticapitalist. They definitely can be in certain circumstances, and definitely make some rent seeking impossible
I aint reading all that.
Have you tried Gnome? IMO it does a better job than OS X at providing a simple, clean, streamlined gui
Yes. That was the last straw for me. I switched to debian stable, and haven’t looked back since
less neutral than they claim to be.
The story of Switzerland in the imperial core
No complaints here. At first I thought the gui was inferior to surfshark’s. But then I realized surfshark’s only looks more polished (at least on linux/gnome). It works fine.
And if you really want to be paranoid (while also using an environment-destroying tech), you could pay with monero and then they don’t really have much info on you (except your IP)
Until corporate Dems are thrown out, the reality is that Republicans remain more likely to tackle Big Tech abuses.
What a fucking dumbass. Yes, dems suck. But at least Lina Khan was head of the FTC and starting to change how antitrust laws are enforced. Did he delete this post after Trump was inaugurated with 3 of the richest tech billionaires?
with no extensions or tweaks.

Gnome ftw
KDE Plasma is really nice, I love all the settings. But every time I try it, I give up after a couple weeks because I get annoyed at the hangups/crashes. Maybe because I’m always on old hardware. But I’ve never had Gnome crash. In 2 weeks, I had to ctrl-alt-f2 to reset plasma like 5 times. I never had to do that with gnome.
Sometimes on Gnome I really wish I could change a setting that would be easy in Plasma. but it’s just not worth the hiccups. And it’s nice that Plasma gives access to a bunch of different task switchers. But I couldn’t find any that work as well as the Gnome task switcher. Plasma feels like beta testing
❤️ to KDE, though. I love K3b, KDEconnect (plus the GSconnect gnome extension), kate, krita, etc.
This. (although I follow the directions here, which is a little more than apt install). The only thing I couldn’t get on Debian stable is the latest gnome. But when I tried debian testing, it was slightly broken anyway. And gnome extensions could get most of the functionality missing in my older gnome version. Debian stable + flatpak + anaconda + adding repositories (like for firefox) is a perfect compromise.
What’s nice about a stable distro is you can update the things you want to update, and your OS isn’t constantly changing a million packages a week that you don’t even know the function of.
Gotta wonder how many state actors have been using it for years.
IDK if thats true in 2024. Debian 12 isn’t much harder to setup than mint or Ubuntu, and the version of gnome it ships with is perfectly fine. I’m not a beginner anymore, so maybe there’s something I glossed over.
Oh wait, I just remembered the thing I glossed over. Needing to install sudo would definitely throw a beginner for a loop. (Iirc, you only need to do that if you give a root password during install). And that’s the problem with trying to learn Linux. Someone will tell you the thing is easy, but they forgot about some arcane step
Idk if it can be called a smartwatch, but I just found out about the sensor watch, and now I really want one. Basically a hackable Casio f-91w
Yeah, this is a rare application of LLMs that kinda makes sense. It’s essentially just rephrasing text based on statistics. That’s what LLMs are good at, and it’s pretty low stakes if it gets something wrong.
There’s definitely an ick factor, considering all the problems with “AI”, like exploiting labor and wasting energy. But this is exactly the sort of things LLMs can do well. Rephrasing things.
Would it be better to just get a human to do this? Yes. They already do with abridged versions and cliff notes. Best case scenario, this service is using LLMs to just make these people’s jobs easier (doubtful, I know)
Poo innit
Is that with flatpak?
