Excellent, really glad that was able to get resolved. We’ve had to deal with domain name issues here too, its an extremely stressful experience that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.
If something’s subpar about it, then do what’s recommended in this post. Open an issue on the repo, or contribute to a fix. It’s open source software.
Unfortunately the people advertising lemmy on reddit and elsewhere rarely link join-lemmy.org, and direct people to join a few large instances. So we’ll likely keep having centralization problems for the forseeable future.
OnePlus makes some incredible phones.
Can someone explain the 4D chess going on here? AFAIK this was just tweet diplomacy, the US hasn’t passed anything about this. So why would google want to handle all the complaints and backlash they’ll take for this?
IMO its a good idea to cross-post to many communities across the fediverse, but as @davel pointed out, it can look like spam if its to a lot of only tangentially related communities.
Damn. I would really love one of these, to show off books, show my daily tasks, etc. Really unfortunate its locked down.
I jump around the OSS launchers a lot, but always come back to Olauncher.

An stranger on the internet just gave you license to say a historically racist term, how convenient for you. Next they’ll be some /r/asablackman posters saying its okay for you to use the n-word, because it doesn’t bother them.
I removed this because it has nothing to do with linux specifically, and as expected, it brought out a lot of people defending the use of this historically racist term, and /asablackman’ing it.
I’ve reinstated it and removed the offending comments for now.
Also I don’t know why this needs a discussion at all. There’s hundreds of words in english for something that looks good, and you can be more specific about it : snazzy, sleek, cool, streamlined, nifty, retro
This meme basically:
To OP’s point tho, I think the fediverse is a lot more ideologically diverse than reddit or other corporate platforms. The fact that you can say something positive about the Palestinian resistance without getting banned, or say something positive about a country on the US-enemy list, is a testament to that diversity.
Sure, there are many servers on the fediverse that are anti-communist, and orientalist / western supremacist, and block leftist ones. But on corporate platforms, you aren’t given any option: that’s a non-negotiable default that you must accept. Here you can always join a server that’s willing to federate with leftist ones, and is okay with ideological diversity, even if you don’t consider yourself one.
We desperately need an open-source obsidian. I like Markor a lot, but it has no WYSIWYG view, which is really nice to have in addition to source mode with markdown.
I think its very possible to do with any native apps, where you can bundle in a small torrent librar. Maybe not iOS, because I think they don’t allow torrents, but android and all desktops its possible to load / preload things like images, audio, and video inline. Its not too possible via the web, because most webbrowsers don’t have any bundled torrent libraries.
I have my own thoughts about webtorrents (they didn’t really survive, while the regular torrent network is still strong). It’d be possible to do with webtorrents solely to solve the fact that browsers don’t have regular torrent support, but seeders would be hard to come by, so I don’t think it’d work too well.
I did add torrent magnet link support to lemmy-ui and jerboa (I think its not deployed yet for jerboa tho). But yes I agree, inline or inplace torrent viewing (for images specifically) is something that ppl should absolutely be working on.
This is a completely solved problem for 24 years now (static data distribution), via torrents.
I don’t see much point in making GUI apps for desktop nowadays, especially since desktop usage is in decline compared to smartphones. If you still want to, I’d go with iced, which is in rust, and well designed.
I’d recommend learning either android jetpack-compose, or iOS app dev.
