HDR in movies/TV shows that support it look phenomenal on a good monitor/TV, especially if you have OLED. Games, on the other hand, I have yet to see any that actually look improved with it.
I mean their job is cybersecurity. Warning people that their OS is about to no longer receive security updates from the vendor seems pretty reasonable. They have no control over Microsoft’s business decisions. The fact ESET even points out that people could move to Linux and get out of the Microsoft ecosystem is at least something.
Also, obligatory, “Fuck Microsoft.”
That’s fair, haha
What’s wrong with Ubuntu? It’s a great distro in all honesty.
I don’t get it. Did the old filter used to censor images containing the word parenthood or something?
The hair detail is well done, color me impressed.
I think you overestimate how many women will simply prefer a woman leader by default. Several countries have had women as their PMs/leaders before and they don’t automatically win every woman’s vote each election cycle.
What’s going on here in the US is just pretty cut and dry: If you value women having bodily autonomy and equal rights, then the choice is pretty damn clear on who you should vote for. Unfortunately, it feels like so much attention is on the presidency, this obvious connection isn’t being evenly applied to other political offices as well (i.e. last I’d read, all projections have the GOP winning the Senate).
Sadly, I believe you’re correct on that… sigh…
$500,000 is nothing to billionaires, or even people who make hundreds of millions a year. It’s a lot to average folks like us, but to them it’s the equivalent of going to the casino with money they can afford to blow.
But I do think you’re right about passing it on to the greater fool. They bet it’ll be the next hot product, regardless if they know it sucks or not. Then some bigger bag of money will come in and buy it up, thinking they’ll be able to somehow milk a sustainable profit out of it. You’d think by now that VCs would be smarter about the boom and bust of tech startups, but alas…
There’s nothing repugnant about using laser pointers safely and properly. It can cause distress if you don’t turn the pointer off on a toy they can “catch,” so that way they satisfy their hunting instinct. Oh and bviously don’t shine it in their eyes. But if owners are doing that, it’s a perfectly ethical toy.
The circular sourcing problem has been going on for a long time, but the modern internet has amplified it to levels of extreme absurdity. There isn’t a solution because humans are inherently lazy and fact checking requires effort. When the majority of your consumer base doesn’t care, then there’s no financial incentive to care on the part of the publishers. Maybe I’m being too nihilistic, but that’s how I see it these days.
Is there a big advantage to using Moonlight/Sunshine vs the built-in Steam remote play feature? I regularly stream from my desktop to my Steam Deck without too many issues, although sometimes I get weird minor problems (e.g. Banishers Ghosts of New Eden will be noticeably darker, Elden Ring will get random “flashes” where the screen kind of blinks for a split second from time to time). These issues are hardly a big deal for me, so I’m more curious than seeking a true alternative.
It’s true that you’re often playing the lottery with them, that’s why I just buy a few at a time. Like right now in the US, you can buy 16GB USBs for $4. The last three I’ve bought have lasted over 5 years each, thankfully. But I’ve had ones that have been bad right out of the package. That’s why I just buy from places that have at least 30-day return policies.
Pen drives are cheap as dirt nowadays, especially small ones that are like 16GB. I’d just buy a new one.
Our SSDs just have to be wiped but we still have to document and provide proof they were wiped and turned in. HDDs and tapes are a different story and a pain in the ass, though.
I’m super jealous. Whenever we decom servers at work, we’re required to fill out paperwork and provide proof that all HDDs and SSDs were properly destroyed (i.e. rendered completely unusable and wiped) and turned in to our disposal department. The servers themselves also have to be handed over to them. I’m not sure what they do with the servers, but I’m guessing they either repurpose them as emergency replacements for other sites that have hardware failures or they bulk sell them at auctions or something.
Not necessarily, context is pretty key on IMDb. There are plenty of shows and movies that get review bombed, especially if they’re tackling a controversial subject. And nowadays, if anything has even the slightest hint of either being “woke” or alrernatively making fun of “woke” subjects, either side will come in and drop a ton of 1’s, dropping the rating significantly. This happens with videogames all the time, too. The most famous example being Last of Us 2, where the game itself was really quite good (e.g. gameplay, design, pacing, etc), but because it included a trans character and a certain event at the beginning with a key character, the internet went rabid and bombed the shit out of the game at launch.
I never realized I subconsciously did this until your pointing it out. Huh. Thanks for that insight I suppose, haha
Oh 100%. He’s 13 years old and still acts like a big, dumb puppy. Yellow labs/labs in general tend to be like that, though. Just happy with life, haha.
