Why not? I made a lot of money from Tesla. If Rivian follows the same path, I will again. I am a tech early adopter, I’m willing to do these things. My Tesla was amazing for 7 years. I got an ok price for it. The price was good enough to buy an Audi which is one year younger.

People don’t have to be stuck with a Tesla. I sold my 2018 Model 3 to Carvana last week for 18k. Yesterday I turned right around and bought a 2019 Audi Q5 for 18k. I never wanted to go back to gas, but I only plan on owning this until I can get the Rivian R2 I reserved. Then I’ll sell the Audi for the down payment on the Rivian. Should be a year or two max.

I think that’s viewing it from the current lens. At the time, the big promise was that you could pay for things without involving all of those pesky big companies. Naive, yes, but the idea of a secure financial transaction is similar in nature to the current tap/wallet methods. But yes, it was commandeered by crooks almost immediately.

Cryptocurrency was supposed to solve this problem; instead we ended up with endless grifting and memecoins designed to leave ignorant rubes holding the bag.

Your whole comment was great, but I think this is the most important part. Nothing matters in the grand scheme of things. Human history is a few thousand years, the universe is 13.8 billion years old.

Nobody cares about your trendy clothes, your car, or any of that. Do what you like and enjoy those around you who have had the same realization. Some people never do and I feel sorry for them.
