Not if - when.
A contrarian isn’t one who always objects - that’s a confirmist of a different sort. A contrarian reasons independently, from the ground up, and resists pressure to conform.
Not if - when.
That explains the downvotes - infants!
Should I have? Is this an autistic thing to wonder?
Earth is by far the most complex thing in the entire known universe. I don’t know how you expect the events here to be clear or simple.
Argumentum ad populum, the fallacy that if most people agree, they must be correct.
We’re tribal animals. Going against the group is usually a bad survival tactic - but just because you echo the beliefs of those around you doesn’t mean they’re right. Very few of history’s great philosophers held popular beliefs, yet we still remember their names. Nobody remembers the conformists.
What about just a nipple?
[EDIT] I audibly laughed, btw. Doesn’t happen to me very often, so thanks for that.
I don’t entirely disagree. However, this way I’ll probably reach that 1000 people in a few hours. That’s still pretty good.
As a hobbyist photographer I do cringe quite hard at the vast majority of the dick pics I see though I don’t know who wants to see a closeup of a single boob either.
You can take selfies with a B&W camera too
Although on most other sites the algorithm tries to figure out what you want to see where as on Lemmy it’s serving you outrage and US politics wether you want it or not.
I kind of think normal people don’t even exist. Everyone is weird in their own way. What we call normal is just the average of all these uniquely strange individuals - but that kind of person may be nothing more than an abstraction, like saying the average family has 2.5 children.
We assume we’re not normal because we know ourselves in far greater depth than we know others. But we call them normal because, from the outside, that’s how they seem to us. Yet, in the same way, there are people who look at us and see normal.
Too bad that my brain apparently still can’t figure out the difference between they keys for my front door, shed and bike lock. Still requires 3 tries just like with USB sticks.
Technically every ban here is a shadow ban as you don’t get notified for it.
I find that keyword-based filtering seems to work better than blocking. We’re at a point here that if one is blocking all communities where people post news and politics to then there’s nothing left to browse because you’d need to block virtually every even slightly popular community.
My current record so far is refreshing the front page and seeing 4 posts with all the others being filtered out. That’s how bad the politics and news spam has gotten. And people wonder why normies aren’t coming here…
This is exactly the kind of work I do for living. Not garage door trim but “where do I even call and ask” type of work. Unfortunelately I don’t live in the US.
I can give you one tip however: aluminium can be cut with woodworking tools so if you have a mitre saw and a drill you could probably buy, cut and install the trim yourself.
I tried looking it up but only found TikTok links, so whatever it means shall remain a mystery. Suffice it to say, though, that the term is probably about 14 hours old.
Eh… If I need to pretend to be something I’m not just to be “accepted” then I’ll rather not be. In most cases when people are changing their behavior to meet the expectations of others it’s actually their own imagined expectations they’re trying to meet rather than that of other people. As long as you’re not causing harm to anyone, most simply don’t care if you’re a bit weird.
We do, but also, we don’t like being called out for it as indicated by the post score
I blocked all .ml communities so this problem no longer affects me
